Graduate Certificate in Health Protection

The University of Tasmania has launched a Graduate Certificate in Health Protection in response to the workforce issues identified during the COVID-19 response. The GCHP provides the background, context and skills required for working within the Health Protection workforce, with a key audience being health professionals that continue to contribute to the surge capacity for the COVID-19 response.

Nicola Stephens and Michelle McPherson are leading the GCHP, which comprises the following four units:

• Outbreak Management
• Public Health Surveillance
• Environmental Health
• Communicable Diseases Surveillance

The GCHP is delivered online and is offered on a part-time basis with completion required in 3 years. Domestic students commencing in Semester 2 2021 may be eligible to receive a 100% HECS fee waiver for initial Outbreak Management unit. The Outbreak Management Unit can also be delivered as a 4-day short course as either a professional development opportunity or as the accredited Outbreak Management Unit.
