Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

Interdisciplinary air pollution, energy and health research

Closing date: 22 July 2020 (before 5pm AEDT)

The Centre for Air pollution, energy and health Research (CAR) is an NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence. CAR comprises a network of universities and research institutes across Australia. CAR is funded by the NHMRC for five years (commenced mid-2017) to support research training and research translation in the interdisciplinary field of air pollution, energy and health. Our vision is for a healthier community through cleaner air and cleaner energy sources.

CAR is examining the health consequences of fossil fuel combustion, landscape fires and alternatives to fossil fuels. These approaches include: a) improved assessments of exposure using sensors, satellites and advanced statistics; b) cohort studies with data linkage; c) detailed measures of physiological endpoints; d) toxicological investigations; and e) intervention studies.

Applications for one Postdoctoral fellowship position starting in 2020 are now open.

Postdoctoral fellowships are for those interested in a career in air pollution research and/or understanding the impacts of energy transitions on human health. Candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds including medicine, science, public health and epidemiology, occupational and environmental health, computer science or other relevant fields.  Applicants will need to be supervised by a CAR Investigator (see list below) and collaboration across institutions is encouraged.

Fellowship funding is available for 12 months with possible extension, pending satisfactory attainment of CAR benchmarks. The fellowship is available for an immediate start. If you would like further information regarding the benchmarks, please contact Dr Joy Tripovich on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The fellowship is valued at $64,449 and is provided by CAR as a contribution towards your salary.  Before you apply for the fellowship, you will need to have prior approval from the CAR investigator who will act as your supervisor.

Eligibility

Only candidates who have been awarded their PhD since July 2014 are eligible to apply. The pass letter should be dated after 22 July 2014.

You may apply if your PhD is under examination, however you must have your PhD passed before you commence the postdoctoral fellowship – if you are unsure if you are eligible please contact the CAR Operations Manager. Only Australian citizens or residents of Australia or New Zealand, at the time of the application closing date, will be eligible to apply.
