An exciting PhD research opportunity is available for a person keen on developing a career in the field of public health, injury or clinical epidemiology. The PhD research program will focus on improving health outcomes for people with compensable injury, particularly road traffic injury. The research program tackles compensation and legal systems in conjunction with health services themselves, and is offered within a Better Health Outcomes for Compensable Injury NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence (CRE).
The student will develop a research program involving analysis of data from cohort studies examining outcomes for people with road related injury. One focus is “natural experiments”, analysed through causal inference, about outcomes before and after legislative change in compulsory third party motor vehicle insurance. Another focus is the analysis of large-scale insurance scheme administrative data linked with health data. An important aspect of this research includes engagement with suitable stakeholders for the translation of research findings to change regulation or insurance scheme operation.
The role is based at the John Walsh Centre for Rehabilitation Research, Sydney, and offers a prospect of working on a range of projects in collaboration with academic and industry partners in NSW, Queensland and Victoria.
